Di luce e di sabbia (Of Light and Sand) is an invitation to discover the enchanted beauty and complexity of Sudan, a country suspended between reality and dream, presence and absence.
Originally commissioned by the travel agency Shiruq, the project later evolved into a fundraising initiative with Amici del Sudan (Friends of Sudan).
The videos and photographs explore Sudan's landscape and its immersive atmospheres: the deep blue of the Nile, the vast deserts, the infinite expanse of sand and sky melding into a single dreamlike vision, but also transitional places, chai houses, and markets that become points of intersection and meditation along the way. Seen in light of current events, these images open our eyes to Sudan's uncertain future: after the 2019 coup, hopes for democracy began to falter, leading to the civil conflict that erupted in April 2023, now the most severe humanitarian crisis in the world.
To support the Sudanese population, a selection of prints from the project is available for purchase. All proceeds go to Amici del Sudan, at the forefront of aiding conflict victims since 2012 through projects in healthcare, education, culture, and the environment.
